Travelling to New Zealand
All visitors to New Zealand must have a valid visa to travel to and enter New Zealand.
For visa information please refer to the website of the New Zealand Immigration.
When you register for ADS 2024 and make payment, you will automatically be sent an email with a visa welcome letter to support your visa application.
Please note – it is strongly recommended that New Zealand visa applications are lodged at least two months prior to departure from your point of origin.
Things to do before you travel to New Zealand:
Check your passport is valid. Check its expiry date to make sure it meets the rules for acceptable travel documents.
Check your eligibility to travel to New Zealand and if you require a visa or NZeTA.
More information is available on Immigration New Zealand's website
Check what you can and can’t bring into New Zealand.
Visit prohibited and restricted items to find out more.
Check that you have an outward/return ticket. Visitors to New Zealand must have one.
Entering New Zealand - pre-arrival preparation:
Some countries' citizens need a proper visa to enter the country - see the Immigration New Zealand website or your travel agent for more information.
Even if you are from a so-called visa-waiver country, New Zealand now requires travellers from most countries to apply for an online Electronic Travel Authorization (NZeTA) before travelling. This gives border security authorities more time to examine inbound people's status than the previous brief "hello" at the immigration station on arrival (like the United States (ESTA), and the forthcoming 2025 Europe program).
This should be done at the NZ government website and the fee is $23 New Zealand Dollars. There are independent vendors - but please steer clear of them and only use the following official site https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nzSeparately, within 24 hours of arrival, everyone must complete an online Traveller Declaration for customs and agricultural issues. Think of it as replacing the old paper arrival card. It is easiest to do from your home country within 24 hours of departure. This lets you attest you aren't bringing in too many cigarettes, dirty shoes with swine fever, etc. Visit www.travellerdeclaration.govt.nz to complete your declaration.
The earliest you can submit your declaration depends on whether you are travelling by air or sea.
